Kyle Busch Fast Again at Lowe's
May 23, 2008 Kevin Carver - SCR
CONCORD -When Kyle Busch headed onto the track for qualifying, fans booed him and following that, fans let him know
it again after he won the pole too.
The other part of the story though is
an interesting bet going on in the garage area. Apparently, if Kyle Busch wins the Coca-Cola 600, Kyle Busch will get $100 in a bet he made with Humpy Wheeler. Wheeler has one half and
Busch is hoping to collect the other half on Sunday night.
"We had
an awesome car last weekend, my guys have done a great job today, but crew chief Steve Addington made a couple of changes
after practice, ran it through the scales and here we are on the pole," the M&M's Toyota driver Busch said.
When talking about his relationship with fans, Busch also touched on that topic
after grabbing the Coca-Cola 600 pole position.
"That is fine if fans
don't like me personally, I don't mind because they don't know me, I am here to win races," Busch said.
Last week's All-Star winner, Kasey Kahne qualified
second for Sunday's Marathon followed by Brian Vickers, Greg Biffle and David Ragan.
"That was a good lap for our Budweiser Dodge, the car is still fast like last week and I am looking forward
to Sunday," Kahne said.
The No.83 Red Bull Toyota of Brian Vickers
ran well last year at Lowe's and his strong third place run in qualifying backed up the statement of why he likes the
Lowe's Motor Speedway.
"I am really proud of our Red Bull team. Most of the year we have been focusing on race set up, but after last week's
All-Star challenge, we were able to deal with just the qualifying set-up and it paid off tonight," Vickers said.
Ragan, who finished fifth in Darlington, had another top five performance in qualifying
on Thursday with a fourth.
"I feel like we have a good car for the
600 and it would have been nice to sit on the pole, but know we have to focus on an important Saturday practice," Ragan
said.
Kyle Petty who made the show for the second time in a row on speed
(going back to Darlington) for the go-or-go-home list also seemed pretty happy with how things went on Thursday night.
"I have been coming over here a long time, but this is important. The
Coca-Cola 600 is a big race and Coca-Cola in on our car this weekend to celebrate the Olympics. It's funny, you come over
here and you are the slowest car in practice and then you make the race. It is good for my guys to qualify into this race,"
Petty said.
