A Nice Change for Gordon and Enough of Dale Jr.

February 6, 2008

Joe Jacobs - SCR

A Nice Change:

This past week Robby Gordon announced that he joined Gillett Evernham Motorsports (GEM) for a technology and marketing merger. He also switched from Ford to Dodge. This should help Gordon who has been waiting for some form of merger for a while but deals always seemed to fall through.

It could not hurt, he could bring a cut throat, hard driving, win or nothing attitude to the equipment of GEM who has been in desperate need of someone who can drive with that crash or win, fast or nothing ability that Robby Gordon has.

I like his attitude, he does what ever it takes for him to win races and contend. He might not contend for wins each week but we must give Gordon credit, he goes out each week in sub-par equipment and fights each lap and most of the time finishes in the top 15.

He should do well with the new equipment and could be a dark horse for winning a race as an independent owner, and that would be a first since 1992 with Alan Kulwicki.

Enough is Enough:

The Dale Earnhardt Jr. saga continues and I am one who is sick of it. There are other drivers in NASCAR. I am so tired of hearing about Earnhardt Jr. going to Hendrick Motorsports (HMS) and his issues with Dale Earnhardt Inc. (DEI) and his stepmother.

Did DEI move Dale Jr.’s memorabilia from the floor of the shop? I don’t know, I think they have the right to do what ever they want to it’s their shop, their cars and it’s their memorabilia.

He is no longer an employee of that race team. I doubt there is Kyle Busch memorabilia in the Hendrick shop and he is not complaining and I have not read stories on how the fans are outraged. Did Earnhardt disapprove only to approve and then be indifferent? Who knows and who cares. It is probably a media story that was blown out of proportion. The racing media made this a story bigger than it should have been.

I am tired of hearing about “billboard gate” with Texas Motor Speedway. I personally thought that the billboard was funny and very intriguing. If you have not heard about the billboard stated “Reason 88: Stepmom.”

However Kelly Earnhardt Elledge did not approve and Texas Motor Speedway in fear that the “Junior Nation” would attack and protest decided to take the billboard down. Who runs your racetrack Mr. Gossage, is it Kelly Earnhardt Elledge and a sea of blue and green?

I am just sick of it being EASCAR (EARNHARDT ASSOCIATION STOCK CAR AUTO RACING) not NASCAR. There are more stories out there, like will Jimmie Johnson three peat, can Toyota be a true contender, and how will the car of tomorrow do at the mile and a half tracks this season?

These should be the questions that are asked and not the questions about the billboard, or the DEI shop and Earnhardt memorabilia. Lets cover NASCAR and all who race in the sport not just a name in the sport.
