Impressive/ Unimpressive: The Texas Three-Step

November 5, 2007

Joe Jacobs - SCR

Impressive:

Jimmie Johnson: Someone told him it was go time, and he went, three wins in a row and now a 30-point lead. With two races left I still believe that Gordon will nip him in the end but it’s going to be a tough pill to swallow wining 9 races and not the championship.

Jeff Gordon: He had a bad day and he finished 7th. The bad part he lost the point’s lead which has never happened to him this late in the season before. I still think he will get off this “bad” streak and win the championship.

Kyle Busch: Not to pound the Hendrick drum but if not for the pit mistakes the last few weeks, which I find suspect; he would have three wins, two in Cup and one in the Busch Series. Never fear though, he might not win the championship this year but look out when he has a team (Joe Gibbs Racing) that has his back.

Martin Truex Jr.: First career pole and another good run, this kid has stepped out of Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s shadow and is creating a shadow of his on. He is ready to seriously challenge for wins and championships that is if Dale Earnhardt Inc. can fix their engine problems.

Unimpressive:

The Chase: If not for the performances of Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, and Clint Bowyer the chase might have been actually good this year. I think adding two more cars and awarding points for winning races to your starting Chase position really messed up a good thing.

ESPN: Do they realize that there are more cars than the top 2 in the race, and that sometimes there is good racing in the back of the field besides when someone crashes?

Casey Mears: I am not sure what Rick Hendrick sees in Mears, perhaps he can keep him under control and he takes orders, like to move out of the way for Hendrick’s two championship teammates. But his lack of talent is appalling. But then again I would be in that No. 25 Chevrolet if my Uncle were a 4-time Indy 500 champ. Hendrick should have gotten rid of Mears instead of Busch.
