Jeremy Clements Dream is at LMS

Concord, NC - We all know about the crash that almost put Jeremy Clements racing career in complete turmoil, but now just three years after the fact, Clements has healed from a driveshaft that went through his arm during a dirt track race in the fall of 2004.

This weekend though is a huge step in his dream towards the top of the ladder. Clements now gets a chance in the Busch Series this weekend with McGill Motorsports.

On Thursday night, SCR caught up with Clements at the Lowe’s Motor Speedway (LMS) as he prepared for Friday night’s Dollar General 300.

As one might expect, Clements was ecstatic to be in the garage this weekend to make his second career Busch Series start. The first happened in 2003 at Pikes Peak, he finished 31st.

“When I walked in here today, it was pretty nerve-racking for me with the bigger car and equipment, but once I got in the car and got used to it, I was fine,” Clements said. “You look around and it’s neat to see a lot of big time people here. I am just privileged to be here.”

The driver of the No.36 Big Lots Chevrolet for this weekend is looking for some success on Friday, but lately his success has come in ARCA competition, driving the No.3 Appling Boring Chevrolet. Clements, who felt that he has let two other wins this season, slip away, finally got to victory lane in August at the Nashville Superspeedway.

“We had been trying to find an ARCA win for a long time, but we just couldn’t put the pieces of the puzzle together. That was something I had wanted for a long time and to finally get it, took a lot of pressure off of me.” Clements said. “We have had a good year, but should have won more this year.”

Clements scuffed tires in the first practice and was 34th overall. Clements was third out of 12 drivers in rookie practice as he made a qualifying run during that time. His best lap of the day was during happy hour on Thursday night by completing a 30.270 second lap, good enough for 31st on the speed chart.

“We did make the car better during final practice, but we just needed some more time to adjust,” Clements said. “Hopefully, it won’t take that long to figure out the rest of the equation when we get into the race.”

I guess it depends on what happens Friday during the Dollar General 300, because Clements said that he didn’t mind staying in this car for next season.

Owner, John McGill has stated that possibility could be true. As the dreamer continues to dream, you can bet that Clements is not overlooking his time at the track during these two days in Concord.
