Hanniford Talks Bristol to SCR

August 22, 2007

Kevin Carver - SCR

Bristol, TN - Dange Hanniford hasn’t been having the best of times in his No.65 Smith’s Transportation Chevrolet for Mac Hill Motorsports, but he does have two things to smile about going into Wednesday’s race at Bristol. For one, Hanniford surged to finish 14th and possibly could have had a top ten, if not for a late incident at the Hickory Motor Speedway just two weeks ago. Secondly, with Bristol on the horizon, Hanniford can’t wait and is honored to tackle the famous .533-mile layout of the Bristol Motor Speedway.

While Hanniford is looking forward to the trip, he took a few minutes of his time to talk with SCR about going to Bristol and what he and his team need to do to be successful at one of the toughest places to race at in the world.

SCR: You sit just a little more than 100 points out of second in the South Division, what is focus for you at the moment?

Dange: The main thing right now is just to stay out of trouble, try to finish and get a good run to gain momentum heading into the championship series. We haven’t had the cars lately to make things happen and hopefully we can find the set up again. It’s going to make for a tough championship series. The field is with two tenths of each other here in the south and I had to take a provisional at Hickory. When we get to the championship series, everybody is going to be within one-tenth of each other. So, that is what we have got to be looking at, because if we don’t get a little better car, we will go home early and that is something I don’t want to think about.

SCR: To do well at Bristol, what would that mean to you?

Dange: It would mean a lot, I‘ll say. Everybody wants to go to Bristol and run good. It’s one of the biggest races of the year, NASCAR wise and we are there on the same weekend as them. The Craftsman Trucks will also be there on the same night as us and to do well at Bristol would be a good way to get your name out there. It’s a good chance for people in Pro Cup to have a car owner on the next level to see you compete.

SCR is looking for writers in all the series we cover, if interested email us at scr@stockcarreview.com to receive further information.

SCR: Any Busch or Truck opportunities in your future since the Busch Series debut in May?

Dange: We had a few things going after Richmond, but that all kind of dwindled away. As they say, when you are out of sight, you are out of mind. The Pro Cup stuff hasn’t been going well lately and that is really my main focus is to see us find what we did last year in this series. We did have a solid finish at Hickory, but I know that we can be better. You never know though, something could come up, but for now, it’s quiet.
