Impressive/ Unimpressive: Fight Night at The Glen

August 13, 2007

Joe Jacobs - SCR

Impressive:

Tony Stewart:
Stewart squeaks out one at Watkins Glen after and early spin. He then does a great job recovering so he can be running second late to Jeff Gordon who spins with two laps to go to give Stewart the win. Its game on for the 20 bunch regardless if they are going to stay with GM or not in 2008. GM better bring the bucks or
Toyota could have a potential 2007 champion on their side for ’08 season.

Bill Elliott: For giving up his ride at Watkins Glen to Boris Said who could use a lucky break after the disappointing rains at Daytona (where he was on the provisional pole) and at Watkins Glen where he is always a potential race winner. Elliott looking out at what is best for the Wood Brothers and not for himself, some of the young guns could learn a lesson from Awesome Bill.

Boris Said: For having the guts (or lack of brains) to give out his cell phone number on national TV and also for finishing 14th in a car he only sat Saturday for the first time. I would consider myself a Said Head and I think he needs a break with a well funded full-time team (I heard RCR, and DEI are hiring).

Robby Gordon:
After a rough week leading up to Watkins Glen that included penalties and probation, Gordon’s good will gesture to Marcos Ambrose  (the offer to drive the second Robby Gordon Motorsports car) he comes home with a very respectable fifth place finish. If he could get a little funding, and concentrate on only NASCAR he could be a contender.

Unimpressive:

Juan Pablo Montoya: No he did not cause the crash that started the shoving match between himself and Kevin Harvick at The Glen. However because he has been in so many other incidents this season, like today with Jimmie Johnson you can't blame Harvick for his reaction. And from what I could see, Montoya was not going to make the turn regardless of who hit him. Expect fines for both drivers and teams on Tuesday.

Jeff Gordon: I have only seen one mistake that would cause Jeff Gordon to lose a race in his entire career until today (he missed a shift at Pocono in the late ‘90's). Then Sunday with two laps to go he drove in too hard and wheel hopped, I honestly believe Jeff heard "here kitty kitty" or footsteps from Tony Stewart. But Gordon doesn’t like to make mistakes, and because he made this mistake he might not make anymore and just win a championship.

Tony Eury Jr.: He said in an interview after Dale Earnhardt Jr. lost an engine at Watkins Glen, "If we make the chase we do, if we don't we don't. I’m not going to worry about it."

That is the kind of attitude that has gotten the 8 team where they are today… out of the chase and your driver moving to greener pasture. Luckily DEI is family or you would have been job searching years ago. With a statement like that, Eury’s move to Hendrick almost seems imminent.

Recording Artist Freeman: His singing Sunday of the National Anthem was probably the worst I have ever heard it. I don't know who thinks that just anybody can sing the National Anthem, at the race track or anywhere else. But the truth is they need to do something like Pocono. Pocono usually has a military band perform and that’s who it should be each week.
