Impressive/Unimpressive: Chicago

July 16, 2007

Joe Jacobs - SCR

Impressive:

Tony Stewart: Another fence climb for Stewart, seems he needs a little controversy to help him to get a win… perhaps he should fight with his teammate then have the coach (car owner and coach of the Washington Redskins Joe Gibbs) come in more often for a “pep talk.”

Dale Earnhardt Jr.: Dale Earnhardt Jr. finishes 19th… with out the aid of power steering, just controlling that car was a very impressive move on his part. I might have a problem with his talent but I have never downed his attitude… always positive.

TNT Coverage: They had a great six weeks, probably the best coverage the TNT group has ever had. Kyle Petty is probably the best driver/announcer in many, many years.

Lapping Pole

How did Kyle Petty do as a commentator for TNT?

Kyle get out of the car and stay in the booth, it's where you belong.
Keep racing finishing 30th is better than your TV skills.
A little racing and a little TV is OK with me.

Unimpressive:

Kyle Busch: He vows to not help his teammates after they did not help him last week (his words not mine). I don’t see him finishing out the year in the 5 car. I still think Rick Hendrick is making a big mistake by letting him go, when his emotions and attitude get harnessed he will be a champion.

Greg Biffle’s Season: With Matt Kenseth, Jamie McMurray, Carl Edwards winning races this season. Biffle has not even contended for a win, and with contract negations falling apart. It is high time to move out of the Roush camp and find somewhere new to drive.

ESPN: I hate to keep harping on this but Rusty Wallace is just awful, and the rest of the ESPN crew is not much better. The lone bright spot has been Brad Daugherty, but this does not make me look forward to the rest of the Nextel Cup season since they take over in two weeks at Indianapolis.

Ginn Racing: Cutting people and regrouping has to make one think that team owner Bobby Ginn came in to NASCAR with his large wallet and no direction. Now he has found out that throwing money around is not the answer. Mark Martin has improved his teams but they need to take it slow and build, and in 5 years perhaps contend for a championship with a young driver.
