RGM Switching to Ford

Nextel Cup News

Robby Gordon Motorsports (RGM) announced this morning that they would switch to running Ford’s starting with the 2007 Nextel Cup Season. Gordon began his professional racing with Ford and Jack Roush back in the early 1990’s. RGM will get it’s horsepower in 2007 like all other Ford factory teams from the Roush/Yates Engine Company. In addition to switching to Ford, RGM will also move to a new 125,000 square foot shop in Charlotte, N.C.

In addition to RGM’s current car—the No. 7—it will at a minimum run a limited NASCAR Busch Series schedule in 2007 with hopes of campaigning a car for the Busch Series championship, and will continue efforts to field the No. 77 Nextel Cup car in 2007. SCR

Kahne Conquers Lowe’s

Nextel Cup News

Concord, N.C. - Kasey Kahne held off and pulled away from Jimmie Johnson in the closing laps Saturday night at Lowe’s Motor Speedway (LMS) for his sixth win of 2006. Johnson whose worse finish in the last eight races at LMS is 3rd had his best finish of the Chase a second.

Point’s leader Jeff Burton extended his points lead to 45 over Matt Kenseth with his third place finish. Dale Earnhardt Jr. came home fourth and the first non-chase driver to cross the start finish line was Bobby Labonte in fifth.

Rounding out the top 10 at LMS was Kyle Busch, his first career top 10 finish at LMS. He was followed by Tony Raines, Carl Edwards, Joe Nemechek and Brian Vickers, who followed up his first career win last weekend at Talladega with a 10th place finish at LMS.

Burton now leads Kenseth by 45 points with five races to go. Busch Series Champion Kevin Harvick sits third. SCR
